After attending World Spinning and Sports Conditioning Conference last weekend in Miami, I’m now thinking there aren’t enough hours in the day because I want to do more Pilates and Spinning to compliment my running and yoga and strength training….which all goes against my new idea of not doing so much.
I believe part of why I’m so excited is because everyone there was as PASSIONATE about their area as I am about running.
The instructors were obviously experts in the industry, but more than that they enjoyed what they were doing and wanted to impart some useful tips to everyone who attended for their own use or teaching.
With over 250 courses, I honestly had only one issue with the conference…I wanted to go to too many things! Here’s a sample of one day in the WSSC Conference schedule.
All right I lied, my only other issue was not having any kind of free food or water throughout the conference. I say this mostly because well you are working out and the 3 day event runs about $400. BUT of course most of these instructors like me walked in with a pack full of their own apples, bars and water bottles.
For those of you who are always looking for ways to up your game as an instructor, you HAVE to attend this next year. I was seriously impressed with the variety from Pilates to Zumba to Barefoot Running to Nutrition to Strength Training and obviously lots of Spinning!

I was amazed to see how much my biking endurance has improved over the last year! All of that time on the bike trainer is paying off and I am hoping to find classes around here because this was a lot of fun! They also did a number of fusion classes where we started on the bike the got off for abs and tabatas, pretty cool.Fascia
I spent 90 minutes with a foam roller and ohhh baby. I learned some great new ideas for how to really hit some different areas and I’ll make sure to share some tips soon!
A 60 min core class?? Oh yes it’s totally possible and fantastic. The timing couldn’t be better as I am working on more classes for the Clean and Lean Project.
I have done reformer classes, but never spent a lot of time on mat Pilates. The course I took was specifically about Pilates for Athletes and I really liked the way she showed how it SHOULD be taught differently because let’s be honest we tend to be seeking a sweat or we are so much tighter. I only wish I could remember it all.
While this is not my preferred way to run, I believe in a lot of the techniques and tenants because they do reduce injury. It was interesting to listen to another lecture on feet exercises and practice the techniques.
I LOVED the information provided in these courses on the effects of hormones (insulin, cortisol, etc) on weight loss and performance, nutrient timing and so much more. They also had courses like the Tao of Teaching, which were all geared towards providing instructors and trainers with information to make them better at their jobs.
Wow did I just gush all over you guys or what?! Each time I am able to attend these kinds of events, I am further reminded how much I love this world and want to SHARE it with others!
