Healthy Sloppy Joes

Easy to cook with two main ingredients, meat and veggies! Play with veggies for more delightful taste.

  • 4 baked sweet potatoes or regular potatoes I pierce with a fork and pop in the microwave
  • 1 lbs of grass-fed ground beef or ground turkey I did 1lb of each to satisfy this group
  • 4 strips cooked smoked bacon optional for flavor boost
  • 1/2 white onion chopped
  • 1/2 green pepper chopped
  • 1/2 red pepper chopped
  • 1/2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 Tbsp garlic powder or 1 clove garlic
  • 1 Tbsp of chili powder
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tsp of cumin
  • 2 Tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • 14 oz can of diced tomatoes or 2 cups tomato sauce don't drain liquid
  • 6 oz can of tomato paste
  • Salt and pepper to taste


  • Add EVOO to skillet and saute onions and peppers, until onions turn slightly brown
  • Add ground beef/turkey to the skillet and brown
  • Move skillet contents to the slow cooker
  • Add remaining ingredients to the slow cooker
  • Allow to cook at least 15 minutes on high, but I loved putting it on low for hours to let the flavors really meld and of course increase our appetites as we smelled it getting ready.
