I knew going in to a 200 mile relay that I was a bit run down, so I focused on my nutrition both before and post race to help give my body all the tools I could to keep from getting sick. No one has time for that!
Coming back from that LONG fabulous exhausting 200 miles, I could tell I’d let my immune system take a hit. It was time to grab a glass and not a pill to feel better.
Natural Bug Killer Flu Juice
When you want to exterminate that nasty flu bug, this juice is on your side. It’ll knock that bug right out of your system.
- 1 orange, juiced
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 2 cups water
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- 1/8 teaspoon ground raw cayenne pepper
- Juice the orange and lemon.
- Pour the juice into a container
- Add remaining ingredients
- Cover and shake
- Transfer to a glass and serve immediately
- Store in a glass container and keep in the fridge for 1-2 days
- Alternatively, pour into a plastic container and freeze for up to 1 month
Why does this work?
We know it contains Vitamin C, but you’re getting so much more by taking it this way versus a powder. Studies are still trying to figure it out, but we know that there’s a benefit to the body of getting vitamins through the whole food. Maybe it’s the fiber, maybe it’s the other nutrients in the food.
Another source of Vitamin C which has been shown to reduce the phlegm you’re fighting. It’s also helpful to detox the body, which means clearing out the virus.
Not only is it going to make this taste better, but it contains zing and manganese which can help you to fight off bugs! It also protects the body from inflammation.
It’s going to help get things moving in your sinuses, which is going to help you get it out! That will help the symptoms of your cold or flu diminish.
