Welcome to another edition of awesome stuff I’ve found lately, aka Think Out Loud Thursday.
Today everything revolves around pumping up the running motivation! I’ll be honest, even with all the crappy fatigued runs, I rarely lack the motivation to go, but that seems to be one of the biggest things I hear from new and long time runners!
First I encourage you to read this post on mojo busters and then see if one of these little gems might give you a boost (because yes NEW GEAR always works!).
You know I’m a big fan of green smoothies…if you don’t you’re a brand new reader and must go refer to my Ultimate Green Smoothie guide.
Thus when The Natural Citizen reached out with some powders that might take my smoothie from a level 10 awesome to off the charts, I looked at the ingredients and said YES PLEASE! Why? Because they were simple, clean and effective ingredients! I could tell they had been well thought out and sure enough when I started diving in to the research every single ingredient was top quality and USEFUL to the body.Could you find a single powder with everything in it? Probably.
But often you don’t NEED everything at the same time and you can almost be sure the quality won’t be as high. So let’s talk about the 4 products I tested out from the Natural Citizen and what I like about them:
- Organic Energy: Did you know when your Cortisol is off because of stress (life and training) that Rhodiola in the morning is a good way to start getting back on track and provides you with a nice clean source of energy? (Here are a few more facts about running.) Well you do now and it’s one of the reasons I was excited to start using this powder in my morning drink — 1 tbsp ACV, lemon juice, 1 tsp glutamine, 1/3 scoop protein and now Organic Energy. This also contains maca which is amazing at assisting with recovery and hormone balancing.
- Organic Digest: We know that keeping our digestion happy is key to absorbing all the nutrients we’re eating and this little concoction has 5 grams of fiber from whole sources. I liked adding it to my oatmeal making it even thicker!
- Organic Greens: I’ve talked before about greens powders as a great way to boost the nutrition you’re getting from a smoothie. We know our food supply is depleted of nutrients and as runners it’s even more important to stay on top of your needs.
- Organic Protein: Yeahhhh a non-dairy or whey protein!! This version is unflavored which makes it perfect for baking up those tasty protein pancakes, adding to oatmeal, yogurt or your smoothie. Brown rice, hemp, pea and sacha inchi for 15 grams protein.

Tip: add the powder AFTER you cook the oatmeal to ensure it’s not broken down or toss it in to your overnight oats. RUNNING SHIRTS
I’m kind of obsessed with all the shirts that Sarah Marie Design Studios makes for runners, but this one really stole my heart. I know some of you call it the dreadmill, but I love my little treadie and it has certainly made training possible for me in many places despite the weather!
Sarah’s shirts are printed on American Apparel which means they are UBER soft and she offers both unisex and female specific shirt sizes, which is fantastic because I kind of like the boyfriend fitting type shirt! MEDAL DISPLAY
Do you have a medal display? We’ve been in these temporary places so long that I actually donated 50% of my medals a few years ago!
Now however, we’re finally staying put and getting a house so I can’t wait to hang this next to my treadmill. I know it will start pushing me to kick a little more butt no matter how the altitude is effecting my workouts!Don’t you think seeing your medals and bibs would keep your goals at the front of your mind…and let’s be honest when people ask you get to humbly say “oh I’ve done a few races“. You little liar, you’ve done tons. Plus you can find a message to put on your medal display that works with whatever you goal is…
cheeky:” Better crazy than lazy”
motivation: “always earned never given”
Disney runners: “and she ran happily ever after”.
I’m thrilled that finally we’ve been able to organize some blogger meet ups in Denver. Right now we’re aiming for once a month and I’m sure the group will grow and do other things as we get to know each other. It’s fun because we’re all from so many different places, yet have so much in common thanks to our health/fitness blogs. Pictured left to right: Semi Sweet Tooth, Treble in The Kitchen, Fit Aspire, and me!
And tonight I’m heading to this amazing screening with KEEN shoes. It’s the International Ocean Film Tour (IOFT), which will involve a screening that I know will leave me once again ready to set off on a brand new adventure.
“Water and adventure are two elements that when fused, create a relationship that’s nothing less than magical. They’re elements that have been highly influential for KEEN from the moment the brand was founded in 2003,” said Nol Gerritse, KEEN Marketing Director. “We’re excited and honored to bring the energy of some of the most inspiring, engaging adventures to people around the US in partnership with Warren Miller Entertainment and Moving Adventures.”
