All of the political commercials seem to have infiltrated my brain and I need your help to make a decision. While I’m being a little silly here, I really do need honest advice and not just “rah rah you can do it”.
This weekend I set out for an 18 mile run…my longest run since the Seattle Marathon in June 2010. I attempted this same run in August when I was set on doing the full in Philly, but months of sickness had taken it’s toll and I simply couldn’t ever break past 14 miles without collapsing.
Today…18 miles turned in to 20 and my brain began to think maybe I should do this marathon. Now let’s be honest I don’t have the training I would normally for a race and it certainly won’t be a PR…but maybe, just maybe I could have a lot of fun seeing more of Philly via m y favorite mood of transportation… my size 11’s.
HELP ME DECIDE
Here’s the thing…my major concern is that I do NOT want to hurt myself or slow down the AMAZING bounce back my body is having. I am running 13.1 FTL on the 13th, Miami Beach RNR on Dec 11 and the Houston Marathon Jan 15. I want to enjoy EVERY single race because this isn’t a period of PR’s for me, but a period of loving that I have recovered and can enjoy my runs.
What would you do…stick with the full or switch to the half?
Ok so now let’s talk about today’s run because I am flipping my proverbial lid…18 miles that turned in to 20 are you kidding me?!! OMG, HOT DANG, HALLELUJAH. It reconfirmed how much I love doing long runs alone and having time to just think and really look at the world…it also blew my mind because even early this week I was struggling with 6 and just two months ago I couldn’t do 10 many weekends.
I probably passed over 1,000 runners today because everyone here is officially gearing up to run the ING Miami Marathon in January, I saw Miami Dolphins cheerleaders, I saw men in kilts with bagpipes, I saw an iguana, I really saw the banyan tress and appreciated where I have the ability to run…today is what running is all about for me.
I am grateful for banyan trees
I am grateful for old men runners
I am grateful for Vega Sport
I am grateful for compression pants
I am grateful for calendars
