Passionate Runner makes great Freelance Writer

I’ve said it before, I’ll never be famous for winning a major race. I’ll probably never secure a sponsorship from Nike…but every day I will move my body because I love it. One foot in front of the other will remind me that I can overcome any obstacle and I can choose how I'm defined.

BASE BUILDING
Now it’s time for me to put that same mindset to my writing. In middle school, I spent hours writing books that I asked teachers to read. Their kind hearts probably died when they had to tell me “it might need a little polish”. That was ok though because my passion persisted and I managed to join the high school newspaper as a sophomore when it was exclusively for seniors.

After three years of learning more about writing, editing and all things journalism I had no doubt about attending the number one journalism school in the country.  Four years later I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Missouri with my Bachelor’s of Journalism and then…I stopped writing.  Writing suddenly seemed like a child’s game and not a pursuit that would make me the money I needed to be an independent, successful adult.

STRENGTH PHASE
Running changes things. It changes how you look at yourself, it changes how you eat, it changes how you sleep and for me it has restored a confidence in my ability to share a love of fitness through the written word!

In 2007 and I started RunToTheFinish as an outlet to talk solely about running with others who also loved the sport. Since then it has grown to over 30,000 monthly page views from people all over the world who want to know more about running, yoga, fitness, healthy eating and most importantly enjoying it all!!

Each week I receive amazing emails from people who have been inspired to try something new or make a change and that has given me the confidence to grow RunToTheFinish and pursue other writing outlets.

PEAK PHASE
Now is the time to really put the pedal to the metal and sprint towards the goal line…writing for Shape, Self, Women’s Health and Fitness RX.  It is my goal with each article to provide motivation for the journey that we are all on to get healthy and enjoy our lives.  There is no one perfect approach, but there are a million ways we can all achieve our ultimate goal.

Having maintained a 35lb weight loss for over 5 years, run 6 full marathons, taken a myriad of different classes, developed greater self confidence and a spiritual practice, I have a wide depth of knowledge to pull from for interesting tips. I also have access to some of the top athletes in the country like Ryan Hall, Kara Goucher and more…seems they have a few things to share with us middle of the pack runners as well!

FINISH LINE: There is no finish line with healthy living, but reaching my goal of being appearing in a magazine in 2012 is the finish line I can’t wait to cross thanks to my friends at FitFluential.
