Price tag on sleep?

It’s been said here before, but I’ll openly admit it again…I’m frugal. We don’t spend money on things we just don’t need with the exception of taking vacations and I personally would debate those are a NEED. That being said when I do spend money, I’m not as worried about the price tag as I am about the quality and the value. Will I wear that shirt a million times? Will those running shoes keep me from getting injured? Will the Vitamix help me eat even more fruits and veggies?

Then I was given a chance to try the TechnoGel Anatomic pillow.  It is designed for side and back sleepers and retails for $150. Any time we have shopped for a new pillow the details at the store never helped me understand the difference for $20 or $50, so I always gone with the cheaper option. I never stopped to think about how much value I place on a great night of sleep and how my pillow is part of that equation!

When you realize that you spend 33% of your life asleep it makes that pillow seem totally reasonable! I don’t even spend 33% of my life running and I would spend that on shoes if needed!

I have held off on my review because I was sick and not sleeping the best due to congestion and coughing. After traveling this week sleeping on random pillows, I can definitely say I was happy to be back to my TechnoGel.

A good nights sleep is reported to have so many benefits, maybe that’s why I’ve come to love crawling in bed at 10PM rather than hitting the clubs…or maybe I’m just boring, but that’s totally fine with me.

  • Curbs inflammation
  • Reduce hunger (particularly for quick carbs)
  • Improves athletic performance
  • Improves concentration and focus
  • Reduce stress
  • Reduce chance of accidents “"Sleepiness is grossly underrated as a problem by most people, but the cost to society is enormous," Dr. Rapoport says. "Sleeplessness affects reaction time and decision making."

David has always joked that while I might cold all day, at night I become a nuclear reactor…hence my love of the cool top. The gel has a cooling effect that comes from the heat dispersion in the thermal regulation design. Have you ever had that experience where you flip your pillow during the night trying to find the cool side? Um yeah that won’t happen with the TechnoGel pillow because it weighs like 10 lbs, but also because it stays cool.

Also important for me is that gel is non-toxic, hypoallergenic and free of volatile agents. The cooling is important with this type of pillow because otherwise the density of the foam can maintain heat, which causes many other pillows to result in night sweats. I know this from personal experience, which is again why I was at first skeptical.technogel pillow reviewMy only issue?? David discovered this pillow while I was gone and now I have a feeling each night will be a race to bed to ensure the pillow is mine! He likes the anatomical design and that his head feels supported, but not stiff like some memory foam pillows.

Getting the right pillow and the right mattress are very important, but to make sure they help you get the best night of sleep there are a few other tips that can help:

  • Create a routine - It let’s your body know it’s time to wind down for sleep
  • Unplug - Leave the smartphone, the iPad and all technology outside. Not only does the light keep you awake and alert, but it doesn’t allow you to mentally shut off
  • Lower the thermostat - 65-72 is considered an optimal temp for most during sleep
  • Make the bed a sacred space - use it only for sleep and lovin’

Are you willing to spend on a pillow or mattress that will help improve your sleep quality? What is your favorite tip for sleeping well?

Gratitude Journal
Dec 22
I am grateful for plenty of time to sleep! I know many of my dear friends with children have told me to enjoy the heck out of it while it lasts.

I was provided this pillow for free via Fitfluential to review. All good nights sleep and opinions are my own.
