As we all train this summer through the heat and humidity it brings forward a reminder that hydration is important both for performance and recovery. What it took me a long time to realize is that while water is my best friend normally, it is not the perfect endurance training drink.
Due to the humidity in Miami, I found that my water consumption was actually washing out my electrolytes and leaving me drained (haha literally). This year I have been using Zico before and after my runs to keep a better overall balance. I won’t lie, I’ve kind of fallen in love with it so I like mixing half a Zico with iced tea now for a treat during the day.
I like that it’s a natural way of rehydrating, especially during the Clean Eating Challenge!!
ZICO GIVES BACK
A few weeks ago I was also very lucky to attend an event hosted by Zico to benefit the Miami Children’s Hospital. My fellow Oakley Ambassador Lacey Calvert was in Miami to teach a small class that included me and other media, then to work specifically with some of the affected children.
In that class she gave them some of the tools that yoga provides us all…how to breathe through it, how to laugh at yourself and to find ways of being in the moment. Miami Children’s Hospital (MCH) Foundation is a worldwide leader in pediatric medicine whose sole mission is to create awareness and generate funds for MCH, the exclusive Children’s Miracle Network Hospital in Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe counties. This event was one of many put on by Salon Allure during the Miami Swim Week to help raise funds.![]()
