Achieving a PR on June 9th at the Chicago 13.1 is about more than running. This time it will be a signal I have taken back my health . . that no matter what circumstances are outside of my control (the no estrogen saga) there are plenty that I can master every day.
I am taking on this challenge as part of the Under Armour What’s Beautiful challenge. I hope you will follow my progress and provide me with some serious support as I am going to need it.
Due to the recent worry and fear about what is wrong with me I veered off track and let the idea that my body was weak start to take over my decisions, but I went for almost 2 years not knowing and doing a whole lot more and eating a whole lot cleaner.
Now begins my journey to 13.1. I can cover the distance in my sleep as I have taught my body the process, but I want more than that. I want to cover it faster, feel great and recover quickly.
To achieve my goal here is what I am publicly committing to:
1. Unprocessed eating - I've probably never had less sugar cravings or felt better than last October when I truly made a commitment to eating only unprocessed foods.
2. Good bye sugar: It's my security blanket and comfort during these stressful times, but as we all know it is truly just making things worse. I want to eliminate this added inflammation from my body.
3. Yoga - the 30 Day Yoga Challenge is perfect right now for many reasons but primarily to ensure that every day I slow down for a little bit and to ensure I remain injury free
4. Running- Clearly this is important, but I had to save my true love for last. I am committed to pushing my speed intervals. I am committed to going to running groups which help me to run faster. I am committed to not running more miles than necessary which causes me to run slower.
5. Attitude - While my body may not feel as wonderful as it did 10 years ago, I am mentally stronger and I want to focus on staying positive.
If I don't PR, I want to know it's because of circumstances I couldn't control like gale force winds, but not because I didn't give my body, mind and spirit the tools it needs to succeed. Will you follow me on this journey?
How would you recommend I hold myself accountable? Food picture tweets? Stating my speed work pace before I start . . . yikes that is terrifying and probably means it is exactly what I'll be doing.
Five weeks is not a lot of time to hit my desired PR of 5 minutes, but it is possible and since the UA challenge runs through the end of June it also ensures I have time to document my recovery and show that by doing the right things leading up to the challenge I am able to get going faster and injury free afterwards. **Note this post was held for a week prior to posting due to the contest, so only 4 weeks remain from date of post.**
