ING Miami Half Marathon Report

Subtitle: Flying Elbows
Subsubtitle: Beautiful water, beautiful weather, beautiful friends
Subsubsubtitle: Fun can be fast too!

IN PICTURES
Battered elbow syndrome, which I can only attest to this being the most crowded race I have ever run. Were it not for my pace on the first two miles I would have PR’ed without even really trying, I missed it by 15 seconds!!

So many wonderful friends were at the race today, including my dear friend Kim who came in from Kansas City, my running partner Diana and my Ragnar Teammates!!! DSCN3169
Then of course we have my favorite spectator David and my great friends Thomas and Brie who were also rockstars coming out to cheer through injuries!!

CLIFF NOTES
Start Time: 5 minutes late, true Miami style
Course: Gorgeous views of the water, few hills
Weather: 52 at start
Spectators: Very heavy in certain areas
Water: Plenty, but only on one side of the course which was a little strange
Time: 1:50:44 – first mile 9:30, progressed to finish with about 8 min miles
Outfit: All about the fun!! Skirt, pink compression socks, crazy arm warmers
Place: 439/6403 females and 1968/12861 overall finishers
Medal: Totally freaking cool
Overall: Had a great day, not doing this race again it was just far too crowded. I really did spend most of the race dodging others

WOOOOOOOHOOOOO, another one in the books. Thanks to my awesome friends Matt and Samara who had us over for a pre-race good time of delicious food and Cranium playing…I think that set the tone for a day of fun.  Post race was a wonderful brunch with 12 friends…really just a wonderful day.

Great job. Finishing at 8min/miles is a true sign that you could have ran faster! You are faster than you think:) Congrats!

I did Miami last year and it was so crowded ... worse than any Chicago race I have ever done. In addition, it was in the 70's at start, and humid!

I also will never do that race again!

Glad to hear you had a decent time despite the fact you literally had to fight your way to the finish ;)

What a great race! Nothing worse than being stuck in traffic in a road race. Cute arm warmers - did you wear them the whole time? If not, where did you put them?

I DO NOT like the large races when I have a chance to PR. It ends up making me MAD.

Looking forward to following your "ramp up"
Over the past 6 months, I have run more than ever, but I'm loving it.
