Spectacular Turkey Trot

DSCN2667
Thousands of you ran trots this week…and let’s be honest I was an advertising major in college, so I just needed a title to grab your attention. We did not in fact have Justin Bierber sign the national anthem, in fact we had a tape player and we did not have Meb waving us through at the finish line…but this was still a SPECTACULAR day for me because it really solidified the life we are building in Miami.

First there is Matt and Samara who we have become good friends with over the last year. These two wonderful people allowed us to celebrate Turkey Day with them yesterday and have really proven to me that home is where you make it.

Pre-Race so fresh and clean…..Post race seriously sweaty for November!

RUNNING BUDDIES
Throughout the morning I ended up talking to over 19 different people, who I have met through running. It was surprising to find that I knew so many people and could truly have a conversation, not just a passing “hello”.

Claudia and Vivi two of my new Ragnar teamates… Bryan always in the top 3, who will be posting soon on Chi Running!!

ANOTHER PR
I really wasn’t sure how I would run…I mean it’s a Turkey Trot so there is a 100% guarantee of 1,000 people lined up at the 8min and under paces who are walking, pushing strollers, crawling and what not. I settled in to an 8:04 pace for the first 4 miles and then about mile 5 the sun just started beating down and my mental thought process became something like “oh good lord, who really cares about my time it’s a Turkey Trot”.  Still I managed to slow only to 8:17 and finished with a 1 minute PR. 50:52 for 15th in my age group and 214/3500 finishers

Finally a picture where I look like I’m running and not speed walking!! thanks to my poor injured hubby who badly wanted to race, but instead was spectating again.

Congratulations. It's really amazing to PR at a trot...just because of all the novice runners that don't know how to line up. Well done!

awesome job! i love the shorter distances...we marathoners tend to naturally get faster without having to "train" specifically for the distance. its like magic.

congrats on the PR!

I wish it was that warm and sunny here! Every turkey trot I have run has either been blizzarding or raining. We even have snow now - possible blizzard tonight.

So nice to hear that Miami is becoming more and more like home. (I love to read things like this with a potential move (after my whole life in one place!) it helps to read about others finding friends and making a life away from the familiar!)
Great job on the PR too! Is that girl behind you only wearing a sports bra...in November? that could make me a little bit jealous...we had ice and snow.

It's the BEST feeling running into people you know at races. It makes the whole experience so much better when you feel you are sharing it. Congrats on the PR too!
