Friends I would like to formally introduce you to…Team Brooks. I understand that most women have a jewelry collection, high heel collection or maybe just a lot of babies, but I have a Team of shoes. Each lovely pair plays a role to get me through the week and they really haven’t been given due credit recently.
Here are the walkers because you know you shouldn’t wear your running shoes for just walking…and let’s be honest I walk about an hour a day. Unfortunately their fit just wasn’t right to qualify for the running squad. In fact, I was working so hard to make these New Balance shoes work you can see they are wearing some Mizuno insoles…identity crisis.
Here we have the long run gurus. Mizuno’s have found a little space in my heart that they just won’t let go of and the Somnio’s appeared like a lost puppy and after one run I knew they’d be sticking around for good. The original insoles provided the best ITB relief, but created some horrific blisters so with new insoles the Somnio’s are a solid long run partner. You’ll notice the Mizunos are sporting my Road ID because well long runs are when I feel I need it the most!
Here we have the speed team. The Nike Free’s haven’t been making the grade lately, so I’m very excited to introduce the Saucony Kinvara. The Saucony has just a little more firmness to the shoe and has been great for all of my 7 mile interval runs lately…I hope to work up to using them for my half marathons. Plus they are covered with clover leafs…seriously a shoe that makes my ITB happy, is light for speed AND is a clearly lucky shoe..what more could I want?!
Next we have the hikers…bright yellow Montrails to ensure I can always find my footing and then some StuffIts because as you know getting dirty and wet often happens when you hit the trails! I honestly wish these got more of a workout, but trails are sparse in Miami.
Finally we have the triplets…one is missing because they stay with my parents in KC. You know how siblings fight for attention. This particular model of Mizuno just worked for me and got me through 2 marathons so it’s no surprise that when one was reaching it’s limit I just got another pair! The have only a few miles left in them, but I’m having trouble saying good bye.
The one thing I’ve noticed on Team Brooks is that all the tongues of my shoes en up to the sides of my shoe. You can see it very well in the picture above… I’m wondering does this happen to you? Or is this an issue with my stride?
How does your team look? And yes by calling it a team you can justify the expense of multiple pairs.

hahahaha! Hilarious post, I love it!
I definitely do not have a team like you, but it is something to aspire to!
I think my tongues end up slightly to the side, too?
Hee, hee! That is quite the group! :o)
Oh how I wish I had a team like that! I have tried SO MANY SHOES but only one kind works for me. So, I have about a dozen of this same shoe kicking around my house. Not so exciting!
Holy running shoes! Yes, when I was into running, that tongue thing always happened - also to my cleats when I played soccer. Very annoying!
I just have Asics Gels - the only shoe that really fits my foot - but am of course addicted to the expensive model which my husband has to search madly for to find at a discount! They are my walkers, workout shoes, etc. I'm only comfy in running shoes, can't stand walking shoes!
Impressive team members! The tongues on my shoes do the same things -- I've never really thought about it before. I see you use your Stuffits in your trail shoes... I use my Stuffits all the time, and am considering getting at least one more pair. Late fall/winter tend to be pretty damp here in NJ, on or off the trails :)
that's hilarious. Why are they all still tied? do you just slip your feet in?
I have a set of triplets too! Mine are nike citius, though. I like to vary it up with different colors though.
Nike LunarGlides (2 pairs), Nike LunarTrainers, Somnio Westridge trail shoes, Brooks Cascadia 5 trail shoes, Treksta Evolution trail shoes (the last 2 are newer and I'm still trying them out
I have quite a few shoes, but only two pairs serve as running shoes now. The other two pairs are for walking around.
Lol - I'm just looking for team members. Right now the Nike Vomeros are functioning as step & weights class shoes. The Nike Frees ... returned ... waiting for Addidas running shoes & trail shoes to come with the UPS guy.
I love this post... I might have to copy the idea soon if you don't mind. Your team is much more varied than mine though... something to aspire to.
I have 5 pairs of running shoes in rotation right now...all the same exact shoe! brooks adrenaline!!
We are in the same boat - minus ones for walking.
Right now I have a pair of Asics Gel Nimbus for long runs, my very FIRST pair of Mizuno Wave Riders which I'm in love with, and a pair of Saucony Pro Grid Fast twitch - my speed and half shoes.
I tried the Kinvara's, but they didn't fit my foot exactly since they are actually a men's shoe. And they didn't have enough support for me. The Pro Grid's are just amazing - I swear I fly in them and raced with them for the first time on Saturday!
Oh, I love me some running shoes!
Have a great Tuesday!
OMG, I LOVE it - you always manage to make me crack up. Here I thought Jay had a lot of shoes, but, I think you passed him up ;)
Go Team Brooks (no play on words intended I am sure).
xoxo ~ Danica
Your so funny! Love the collection! :) a great one at that! and your pics below in costume rUle!
I just have a new pair of Asics and an old pair of Asics. That's quite the collection!
Adorable post! I don't have a team per se. More of a pre-run, run, and post-run trio. LOL!
Thanks for the kudos for MCM. :)
Ha! I love your running shoe collection! You've really figured out what works. I've only ever run in 3 different brand and I think I am an Asics girl!
Cute post! I definitely don't have as big of a team as I'd like but it's growing. A lot of past team members need to be donated but are still hanging around the house.
I wish I was as committed to one brand as you are :)
Oh you shoe vixen you!
My tongues are front and center...go figure.
I have a closet full of running shoes that are for specific length runs/conditions. I thought I was the only one who had a "team" of running shoes.
I'm going to try the Kinvara's next time I get speed shoes. My Nike Frees wear out way too fast.
I thought this was a very creative post. I adore your creativity and humor. Thanks for sharing!

That is one impressive team:)
Ha! I'm glad to know I'm not the only running shoe collector. For walking, I have a pair of New Balance 990 (the all grey ones). For running, I have worn Asics Nimbus for 12 years. currently I have 3 pair of these. I have flirted with Mizuno Wave Riders and am going to purchase the new Brooks Glycerin this weekend just to spice things up :)
Ha ha...this post is hilarious! I love your shoe collection!
Just a thought about the shoe tongues: Our feet are shaped with a higher rise to one side. Maybe the tongues are just sliding down that natural slope. The only reason I thought of this is because my Asics trainers have the laces slightly offset to follow the natural shape of the foot. Just a thought!
