Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge

The 3rd annual Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge is here!! We have had over 120 participants for the last two years and I expect even more this year. The goal of HBBC is to provide a little additional motivation to stay active and make good choices throughout the holiday season. The stats say the average American may gain at LEAST 5lbs…but even if you gain 2lbs and don’t lose it that adds up each year.

WHY PARTICIPATE??
A. We had an awesome time! The involvement from everyone and encouragement is amazing.
B. It kept folks from gaining holiday poundage
C. Some seriously good prizes…Sweaty Bands, Once Again Nut Butter, Lara bar, New Balance Shorts, Oiselle Running tank, CEP socks, green teas, yoga bag…to name a few…more details to come.

HBBC Rules
1 Point per mile (run/walk/snowshoe)
1 Point per 3 miles biked
1 Point per 20 minutes of weight lifting, Pilates, yoga, stretching or abs
1 Point per 15 minutes of low impact cardio (i.e. aerobics, easy biking)
1 Point per 10 minutes of high impact cardio (spin, kickbox, etc)
1 Per day where you reach a minimum of 7 servings of fruits and veggies

Challenge will run from Nov 20 to Jan 7…this helps to cover you for the major holidays!

Additional points: Because I am all about taking care of your entire mind, body, soul connection there will be additional posts/questions where you can earn points throughout the challenge.

STANDARD FAQS
Examples of counting points:
1 hour cross training class of weights and cardio: 2 points weights and 2 points cardio.
1 hour cross country skiing: 4
Why is it weighted towards running? The majority of readers are runners looking for added holiday motivation…and it’s my blog. :)
I don’t have a blog can I participate: Yes, but as noted in tracking points there must be some method for us to see what you’re doing. Daily Mile, Facebook, etc.

TRACKING POINTS
Keep track of your points through whatever means you’d like…just be honest. I will provide a Google Doc for everyone to enter their points and see how others are doing. The upside is it can inspire you and the downside is some folks get tempted to cheat. Based on an issue we had in year one, I will probably need to ask for proof of some sort if the winner blows us all out of the water.

PRIZES
Prizes are clearly the second best part of this challenge…the first is eating those holiday treats and knowing you won’t be putting on a single pound to start 2011. Complete prize details will be coming soon. Possible ways to win:

1. Total points prize
2. Randomly drawn winners

I have been trying to sign up, but the spreadsheet won't allow to insert. I did post on my facebook page and then I put it on my blog. I think that is 3 points:)

I signed up and put the button on my blog. The button code didn't work at first but after a little code tweaking it seems to now… not sure if others will have trouble or not. I'm really excited about this because my last "big" race is the 20th and this will provide me with the motivation I need for after that. Thanks!

Yippee! I'm so excited. Signed up and the logo is on my blog. This challenge and the 10K I signed up for on 01/02 should keep me in check for the holidays. :-)

I tweeted twice, I added button to blog, I'm ready for my 2nd year. Do you have the spreadsheet from last year? Would like to review my stats and placing. :) Got a bigger bootie to bust this year. (not really) but I want to bust some of what always seems to hang around.

Signed up and have the button on my blog (running42km.blogspot.com). Really excited – I'm having a motivational crisis, so I just need to hang on until the 20th!

I signed up and listed my blog (because I want people to see and read it… shameless self promotion, I know), but I actually plan to track my points on daily mile. Is that cool?Amy Lauren

Okay, this is awesome…your blog is such a great motivation. I'm signed up but will probably not earn as many points as I would if I wasn't coming back from a serious injury but hey, I can handle being in the back of the pack. I probably won't be winning any points. :( :)

I love that snow-shoeing got a little love :)I'm very excited for a December without training, but that doesn't mean I'll be sedentary, so count me in! It'll definitely help me get back into a rhythm with stretching and core work.

What a great idea! I was really diligent last year and managed to lose weight all through the holidays while training for a marathon. I'm not training for one now, but will need all the help I can get staying on track. I'm in!

Great idea. I am totally in and will post to my blog and my facebook friends. Hope others join us too!

What is the deadline for signing up? I'm a natural born procrastinator and need to make sure I leave things like this to the last minute. 😉

  12. says

I am so in this year!!! Would you be up for doing a little commercial (guest post) about this on my blog. I am not doing the POTM challenge this year and I think there would be a lot of my readers that would love to be involved?!!!

  13. says

I just signed up :)I was just wondering – I put the logo on my sidebar but the HTML address shows up with the logo, do you by anychance know how to change that?Looking forward to the challenge;)!

  14. says

Just what I needed! All signed up and ready to go, but…need to try not to spend too much "butt time" checking out all the other participants' blogs!!!

  15. says

Thank you for the challenge! Because of this I made it through Holiday number 1 without gaining weight! :) I am pretty sure this challenge motivated me to run 10 miles on thanksgiving and do an hr of strength/stretching. :)

  16. Nan says

Loving it!! But apparently I'm illiterate :) I didn't catch the difference between the high impact and low impact cardio. Had to go back and redo my numbers. Yay for having a workout calendar!!! Most of my cardio is high impact, and I was shorting myself :(
