How has it been so long since I’ve done a book review post?! My favorite past time is reading, but I guess I’m getting lazy about sharing..not because I am hoarding these lovelies mind you.
FOR FUN
I tried reading Clarissa Burden Learns to Fly, but found the first 30 pages so depressing that I quit. Life is tough enough without my past times depressing me!! Most of my other fun reading has been magazines… Yoga Journal, O Magazine, Oxygen, Shape, Runners World, Real Simple, Women’s Health… seriously I’m not sure how I got sucked in to so many but I’ve enjoyed the variety of things when I’m traipsing about the country on planes.
FOR RUNNING
The Runners Guide to the Meaning of Life by Amby Burfoot
This man is a wonderful writer and runner. This is a very short book, which sounds perfect for a lot of you buys mama’s. Along with inspirational quotes there are things that I believe every runner can relate to about failure, success, goals and life in general.

Run Like A Mother by Dimity McDowell and Sarah Bowen Shea
Totally thought this book would do nothing for me since I’m not a mom. Fortunately, I won it and have figured out that running connects us all whether we have children or not…sure my struggles are different than waking up because someone just hurled on your bed (or not in college), but overall the book is about running and you know that’s enough to inspire me to lace up! I like the advice from real runners (both authors and side notes) and my favorite tip was instead of just tying a long sleeve shirt around your waist, spin it first and then tie it so it’s not flapping behind you.
Find RLAM for yourself and of course check out their blog if you haven’t.
This is why you’re fat (and how to get thin forever) by Jackie Warner
I know the title certainly turned me off for quite some time…but I have to give her credit I think there were some very valuable pieces of information in this book. She provides great information about what sugar does to your body, which I posted about yesterday and some really great interval workouts. For those doing marathon training, her workout structure won't really apply since she believes in short high intensity daily workouts. I WOULD recommend this book to someone just starting and I am using her treadmill workout for my hill workout! I have also incorporated some of her ideas on nutrition, like eating eggs, oatmeal and lemon water daily.

FOR SPIRIT
The Devil and Miss Prym by Paulo Coelho
Within all of us is a struggle between Good and Evil. Coelho always takes an interesting path to teach us life lessons and this book is no different… a man shows up in a very small village with a proposition that if they are to kill one villager he will reward them with enough money to fix all the perceived wrongs and live amazing lives, etc.
Read to learn more about your own inner good and evil
Also in the process of reading Brain Training for Runners, Food, God and Women, and listening to What I talk about when I talk about Running….plus I may have read another book or two in there, so I’m trying to just pick out the good one’s for you!
Any great books you don’t have time to read that you’d like me to enjoy and give you the Cliff Notes?

Thank you! I am enjoying your book reviews. I LOVE to read, but I don't get much time to spend deciding WHAT to read. Your reviews are really helpful in deciding what my next pick will be, and I love that you have varied subjects to choose from. Keep it up, please!!
Love the book reviews! I just finished Run Like a Mother, and thought there was something in there for every runner. Have you signed up on Goodreads yet? I recently joined and think it's a great website!
I didn't recognize the author's name when you posted about sugar yesterday, but I recognize it now that you posted the picture and the title. That's the book that a friend of mine has been telling me about! She bought it a couple of months ago and started eating completely clean and has already lost 12 lbs. And she wasn't fat to begin with! She was a migraine sufferer and since cutting out the sugar she doesn't get headaches anymore either! It's amazing, really...
I always look forward to your reviews! Thanks for sharing!
I was wondering what that Jackie Warner book was like...the title sort of put me off, too. Glad to know that she redeems herself inside the book.
I read "Women, Food, and God"...there are some very interesting ideas in that book!
LOVE the book reviews!!! I'll have to check out Amby Burfoot's book. And I love RLAM! A great one I read this summer was, Personal Record, by Rachel Toor. Great quick read as well and so inspirational. Would totally recommend it!
Thanks for the reviews! Warner's title certainly is off-putting and pretentious, but I think some people need a "kick you in the teeth" sort of approach.
Thanks for the reviews! I am wanting to read Jackie's book as well, but I'm currently reading The China Study. WOW! Does it have some good information that is making me think twice about what I'm putting in my mouth!
awesome book reviews.
Thanks! I wanted to read that RLAM book but was scared since I don't have kids.
I've been setting aside time almost each night or afternoon to READ! I love it and am glad to be back into it. For awhile I'd rely on movies or tv for entertainment, but books captivate me so much more. I have a huge stack queued up to read :)
Thanks, Amanda, for the nice review...we totally appreciate it and are very glad it appeals to you as a non-mom (we all have to figure out how to make time in our days to run/take time for ourselves). Gotta check out the sugar book...way too addicted over here. Many happy miles. Dimity
