MCM Virtual Race Report

I had great plans to blow my own speed record for a 4 mile race to celebrate the one and only MCM Mama’s 40th birthday.  Unfortunately, emotions and running sometimes don’t make for the best partners.

Wednesday was a rough day around here, going back to that emotional bombshell.  As with anything some days will be good and others just a little tougher, but in the end it still all works out for the best.  I was all fired up to run and so though it was effectively pouring when I stepped out the door, I really didn’t give a hoot.  My goal was just to run a mile or so prior to meeting the Brickell Run Group because they always kick my arse!

Instead I ran almost 3 miles and knew then that my Virtual Race wasn’t going to go as planned. But as I have commented to many of you over the years, all our running experiences good and bad teach us lessons!  Like making your first mile faster than your normal speed work…not eating anything prior to running…no water… yeah probably a bad idea.

OFFICIAL RACE REPORT
”Real runners do it in the rain.” – This was the official motto of the Brickell Run Club on Wednesday and I loved it!  Amazingly with the rain it was still hot enough that I could tell I was sweating, talk about being a nasty mess.MCMmamaBib

Mile 1: Run solo prior to the official group run and clocked in at 8:20. The pouring rain felt pretty good at this point and that combined with my iPod really got me moving.

Mile 2: I’m always psyched when the group starts running…I like to pass people, it makes life fun for me…or chase people that’s fun too! So starting out I was feeling so strong that again I was beating down the door on an 8:30 mile.

Mile 3: Dodging people on the sidewalks and sprinting to avoid cars, people and dogs started to catch up with me and all that rain suddenly felt like a lead vest…but I was happy to see I wasn’t actually going as slow as I thought.

Mile 4: Umm well there go all the people that I passed earlier, gosh this was a little embarrassing. I  hate being that person who starts out like a hot shot and finishes like a chump. The idea of walking was nagging me the whole way of this last mile, but I kept saying to myself that I am not a quitter and I am a strong lady and would finish.

So finish I did with a 4 mile time of 36:30.  Nothing Earth shattering, but I’ll take it!  Unfortunately what started out as a yeah I need to run to bust some stress finished as a please no one talk to me I really just want to go home….so I did. Yup, I was a completely rude running buddy and just left post run without a word…hey the alternative was crying and that would be silly too.

I’ve seen a lot of fun MCM Virtual Race Reports out there, so fun!! Anyone else doing this or a race this weekend?

Oh man, I've definitely done this before but you're right all running experiences DO teach us lessons. Way to persevere and finish the run even when it turned on you!

I love running in the rain. Running in a thunderstorm...not so much! Have a great weekend!

Way to push through your run! I love your daily gratitudes, I laughed because I do them sometimes on my facebook page and I listed 'Kleenex with Aloe' once.

Rain is great as long as you're feeling it, but if you're not happy, rain just makes everything worse. Way to get the race in!

Nice job! Even though you had a tough 4th mile, you still finished, and that's the important thing. I hope today is a better day!

Nothing worse than the "re-pass!" But it happens to us all. Hope you're feeling better.

Nice job on the 4 miles. Even if it was a "bad" run you finished and in a good time. Hope you are feeling better.

I love that phrase! I love running in the rain- unless it is a torrential downpour, of course!

That is a super speedy 4 mile time- you should feel proud!
