Inspiration and passion for the journey

I am very happy to welcome so many new readers in 2010. Maybe you’re here because you’ve just started your journey to a better life (hello New Year’s Resolutions!) or maybe you’re here because you can relate to desire to continue moving towards a grander life. welcomeFor those new and old welcome…l’ve been tagged a few times for meme’s and lists, so this seemed like the right time to let you know more about RunToTheFinish.

WHY BLOG
For my new readers, here is a little back story: I started blogging in 2006…but gave up after only a month because I hadn’t yet figured out my true purpose for the blog. I thought it was just about recording workouts or food to help me lose weight…what can I say weight seemed to be all I could think about during my early twenties.

However, I came back to the blog in 2007 and fell in love with the community and the spirit of health bloggers. During that time I also realized how much I adored meeting other runners, talking about nutrition and quite selfishly hearing that I had helped someone take the next step towards their goal.

RunToTheFinish has evolved for me in to something so much greater than a place to chronicle workouts. It has become a place to share in the journeys that we are all undertaking from running a first/second/50th marathon, to triathlons, to weddings, to moves across the country, to expanding families and more.

People often think that I simply want too much from life; I want it to be amazing, memorable and filled with love…just like I want this blog to inspire and ignite passion for the journey we are all on. I don’t like to fail, so big goals just mean keeping focused on big dreams, dusting myself off frequently and moving forward. I haven’t reached a BQ yet, I haven’t inspired a nation to start running, I haven’t gotten chiseled abs…but that’s ok it means there is plenty left to do!

What keeps you blogging? How has your blog changed over time?

ABOUT ME
As you’ve seen in my side bar, I lived in the Midwest until this October when we up rooted our lives and moved to Miami, FL. It was a choice that we made because I believe you have to try new things, embrace life and see what it may bring. I want to see an experience the world because I’ve always found the memories of travel and friends to be more beneficial than owning any object (except maybe my Garmin). I also believe my About page still provides a true representation of who I am…so if you are looking for more it’s all there!

Do you have an about page? Is it up to date? I love learning about all my readers!! Leave your link below and I'll compile a list so we can all learn more if you'd like!

WEIGHT LOSS
I am also long overdue with a post on my weight loss journey. Many folks have asked how I lost 35lbs and kept it off for over 8 years now…so I promise that is coming soon too!

If you have any questions about me, about running, my birthday challenges, whatever, please feel free to email me: amandacbrooks at yahoo.

Great post! It was good to read about your blogging story, why you blog, and the evolution. What keeps me blogging is (1) the creative release; (2) knowing people are reading; (3) the community created. I do have an about page and it is current: http://oc2seattle.wordpress.com/about/

Thanks for doing a post a little more focused on learning about YOU! It's great and I look forward to more!

Ok, I don't want you to take this the wrong way but I was surprised when I reread some posts and found out your age. I honestly thought you were older (gasp..I know), NOT because you look old, you're beautiful. But because you just seem to have your stuff together. Your head is on straight and you never fail to impress me.

Thanks for your blog Amanda. And count me in as people you have inspired.

Great post, Amanda. I haven't been following for too long yet, but I've enjoyed getting to know you and reading about your passion for life and all things health (mind, body, soul).

I would love to learn your weight loss story - it's something I've struggled with quite a bit myself and I'm still working on getting to (and staying at!) my goal weight.

I think the insight and feeling of connection with other bloggers is kind of what keeps me blogging. I don't know everything, but I do like to share my experiences with other bloggers; sharing what works, what doesn't work for me, and other personal testimonies.

I need an About Me post...I have a 100 things about me post, but it definitely needs to be updated. I might have to put that on my to-do list for the weekend.

The blogging community is amazing, isn't it? I never thought I could be blogging for years, but it's happening... and it's all thanks to my readers. They inspire me every day... and it's also a great outlet. Sometimes I don't *feel* like blogging but feel like I should, but the moment I start - words start flowing, and I remember why I do it in the first place. And then the comments make me smile. It's great!

Great post!! I've been blogging almost a year now (started Feb 1st 2009!!) and my blog has changed drastically! It started just as like a daily journal about my life, then turned into a running blog, and now it's more of a healthy living blog(food, workouts, and my beloved running!!). I really enjoy where my little blog has gone and can't wait to meet more lovely bloggers!! I re-did my About page recently, so check it out if you haven't!!

As always, you continue to inspire and give me great insight inot my own journey. I have been reading and commenting on blogs for ages but didn't start my own blog until October 2009. I wanted a place to be accountable, to share my ups and downs and to share with people what I go through as a runner. I keep blogging because the community so supportive, I feel like I know most everyone even though we have never met face to face. Thanks again for everything, you are an amazing person :)

Hi, I have been following your blog for a year now :)

I starting blogging in 2003 right after my best friend passed away, I needed a release and a place to gather my thoughts and memories of her.

Then I realized I wasn't keeping up with my babies scrap books or baby books and decided in 2006 to start a blog about my kids lives.

To date my blog still reflects mostly my children with bits of photography, life, health and me.

Thanks as always for being one of those blogs that seems "set apart" from the others. There is just something about your range of discussion that inspires/lifts/includes me. Thank you.

I started blogging because I love to write. I wanted to find a larger world of others who share my passion for running and wanting more out of my life. Blogging is about inspiring others by doing things that amaze myself.

I have been lurking for awhile now, but needed to say that I love your new layout!! Looks great. I'm new to running~ I need to lose a lot of weight and my uncle who runs marathons, inspired me to give it a shot. I'm loving the personal challenge more than anything. I truly feel like this year is going to be different for me ~ this is MY year :)

so it's actually just the comments section that gets cut off. the comment box and the other comments people have left. your actual text for the blog is not cut off. And what's weird is that it gets worse the further down the page you go.

Definitely the community is what keeps me blogging, I love it! Plus I enjoy reflecting on my eating and exercise habits at the end of most days :)

I started blogging to keep track of Marathon training, then added a second blog because I felt guilty for spending more attention to detail with training then I was doing for my new baby ... and now I am a duel blogger. Sheesh!

I've got to say that health/ fitness bloggers are a terrific group of supportive people. I love being a part of this community. I started blogging as a way to contribute a fraction of what other bloggers have given me.

I have only just discovered your blog and I love it! It is informative and the layout is great. I started my blog at the end of 2007. I use it to record my daily training activities and how I felt, what times I did, etc. I put a search engine on it so that I can search things and I find I refer back to sessions to find out what I ate or what my average pace was, etc. Oh, and my family can read it to see what I'm up to! http://emmalmaynard.blogspot.com/
