Two new gluten-free cookies (is it gluten free or gluten-free, seriously?!) have found their way in to my pantry lately…one of which arrived shortly after me in Miami and made my day because the cupboards were BARE!!! Naked cupboards are a no-no around here, so I was happy to have some treats provided to me.
These two companies both provide great products, but they are VERY DIFFERENT. Dr. Lucy started her company after learning her child had severe allergies…a mom can’t simply deprive her child of all things yummy?! So Dr. Lucy found a way to make some delicious snacks (with a reasonable calorie count I might add) that are gluten-free.
In Liz Gilbert’s case, she was the one who developed a food allergy late in life that took away from her a cherished activity of baking…and of course eating those delicious treats!! Liz just couldn’t find anything in the marketplace at the time that really reminded her of something homemade, so she struck out on her own!
WHY GLUTEN-FREE?
Over the last 20 years, our process food driven society has begun to use gluten in all kinds of food s. Our bodies were not truly made to digest this much gluten, so many have found that it results in stomach pains or developed allergies (others are born with the allergy). My boss recently discovered cutting gluten from his diet made him feel better…but it also took away SO MANY food choices.
Do you need to go gluten-free? Probably not if you are feeling fine after you eat products with gluten, but you will notice many who do cleanses (such as Bobbi at NHERShoes) include gluten-free as a requirement for the cleanse.
DR.LUCY’S COOKIES
If you are a fan of crispy cookies, these are the treat for you. They come in little packages of about 4 cookies which is roughly 170 calories and made from all natural ingredients and for those with allergies they are made without gluten, dairy milk, butter, eggs, casein, peanuts or tree nuts!
My personal favorite…the cinnamon thins! I know you’d think a chocoholic would be all over the chocolate chip, but what can I say these just really did it for me.
LIZ GILBERT
Look at what these DO NOT contain: wheat, gluten, nuts, peanuts, corn or corn syrup, milk, chemicals, additives, preservatives or transfats… yup they are pretty much perfect for anyone with an allergy issue. But better yet is that they are still soft and seriously melt in your mouth like what you make at home…I was thinking there had to be a pound of butter to make them this wonderful, but don’t think so.
For quality assurance (ha)I tested out the chocolate chip, sugar and snicker doodle cookies before writing this post. What I realized was…they were so good I am dying to try out her cookie dough. Really cookie dough might be my major weakness in life…used to make it and freeze it so I could have some any time!

My friend had the same problem where she found out she had a gluten allergy later in life. I will have to let her know about these cookies. Thank you for sharing the information.
Gluren free products are important because I have a family member with celiac who needs to avoid all wheat ingredients. It is much easier nowadays to find replacement foods (that actually taste yum too).
Your on my bloggy roll :)

Gluten free is important to me because I want to eat healthy and also because a family member can't eat gluten. Having for "safe" foods for them in my everyday diet would be awesome!
I don't eat GF myself (although I am not against it) but a good friend of mine has a daughter with Rett Syndrome (similar characteristics to autism) and there has been research to suggest that a gluten free diet can minimize symptoms and help her lead more of a 'normal' life. When I learn things like this, it makes me think maybe we should all be eating GF...
You're already in my blogroll!
Gluten-free is important to me because two of my family members have gluten allergies and I like to be able to share food and bake for them!
Gluten-free is important to me because my nephew has severe food allergies (gluten, dairy, potatoes, oranges and tree nuts!) and actually, I've learned his g.f. food isn't so bad!
Gluten free is important to me as I have celiac. If I do eat gluten it has horrible effects on my body and besides the pain it makes it so I have no energy to workout or run.
I often have to go gluten free at periods. i actually went completly gluten free for over a year. And the gluten free products are just never that tasty - especially bread - the texture is just wrong! Products that are satisifying are hard to find, and it gets expensive trying to find ones that are okay vs. others. Your post is helpful! These cookies look amazing and I would love to win some of these! Thanks for sharing! ;)
I just added you to my blogroll! :)
I've always wondered if some of my many stomachaches are attributable to gluten, but it is really hard for me to wean off of it!
i just think that it's important to eat a variety of foods (especially grains!) so that you get plenty of nutrients and don't develop allergies.
Every since I got pregnant my stomach has been doing awful things. The doctor has me on a gluten-free diet right now and that is helping. Thanks for finding another awesome product!

entry 3 I am gluten free and have been for the last 5 yrs. After a lifetime of GI issues, systemic body swelling, resp & ear infections, etc etc it was clear that I was intolerant to something. Turns it it's: gluten, soy, dairy, and egg. Sort of why I became a high raw vegan :) GREAT GIVEAWAY!!!!!!

I never heard of "gluten free" until I found out that one of my best friends and running mates has celiac disease!
Now it is all about gluten free when she comes to my house for a visit.

Gluten free is important to me because it gave me my life back. I was 79 pounds before doctors finally diagnosed me with Celiac's Disease. Eating gluten free has caused me to gain back the weight I lost. But more than that, it has given me my life back!
I did not realize so many people were sensitive to gluten.
Oh my goodness! That cookie dough!?! Gluten free dream come true! I would love to try that, although I have a feeling most of it wouldn't make it's way to the oven...
P.S. I love reading the other comments and seeing how important a gluten free lifestyle is for others! I eat GF because I have celiac, but others who are doing it for the other benefits (skin, autism, and supporting friends/family with gluten intolerance) is great!
Thank you for bringing gluten free awareness front and center! :)
I am doing #2 first and will come back. You are linked (as always) on high five friday.
My mom suffers from IBS, and cutting out gluten from her diet has dramatically decreased the symptoms, so these cookies would be amazing for her! Thanks for the giveaway and bringing more awareness to these products.
Why start a cookie company? Food has always been an important part of my family life, with the kitchen being a gathering place for our family and friends. Growing up I spent many happy hours preparing, serving and enjoying meals with my mother, grandmother, family and friends. Desserts were my specialty. People knew that they would have selections of delicious, homemade treats made from scratch at the end of the meal.

I learned that 3 million people have been diagnosed with celiac disease...and I'm sure there are a lot of undiagnosed cases as well!
Gluten free living is important to me because it keeps me feeling healthy and strong. I cant get enough GFree :)
I learned that "1 in 133 people in the US, have been diagnosed with Celiac Disease". These yummy cookie goodies sound like a great introduction to gluten fre products (might as well start with the best!).
I'm going to forgo entering this giveaway because I know there's a lot of people out there suffering with Gluten intolerances that would benefit from these cookies a lot more than I would.. though not gonna lie, I'm very tempted :)

Gluten free is to me because it is a life and death situation (well maybe not quite that bad), but anyway I have celiac disease so it isn't a good thing! :)
Gluten free is important to me for dietary reasons. I try to help my body out by eating foods that I know it likes and can digest!
well, you know I love my gluten but had no idea. I learned that ADHD kids have it taken out of their diet and it seems to help. Who knew?
Silly girl, you have been on my blogroll for a while!
So are these cookies really vegan!? I want some!!!
I found it intresting that there may be a link between gluten and autism. And I always feel better after eating a gluten free diet.

anyhow... at least now I know about Dr. Lucy's cookies =)
I was reading a cases study for my medical nutrition therapy class, and had to diagnose someone with celiac's- they were having the same problems as me! I never realized it, but after spending a year taking nexium for "acid reflux", I have finally realized I am intollerant to gluten! I've cut it out and haven't felt this good in so long but I am frustrated with finding things that are GF !
