Cinque Terre to Rome, Day 12

Good by my love Monterosso... on the train we go to La Spezia where we spent about an hour wandering around...then on to Rome. Once in Rome we could immediately tell that we had left our sleepy world and re-entered the big city. I never felt unsafe by any means, but I was definitely paying more attention to my purse.

Picture 1: Our train stopped in La Spezia so we took a stroll and I had to pose with my new love Gelato. Notice the backpack is increasingly full.











Picture 2: So with every hotel the shower seemed to get smaller...by this one David barely fit. I have to say the Arena Hotel in Rome was the only disappointing hotel we stayed in... I mean I wasn't even strong enough to flush the toilet!! There was this crazy button you had to push really fast on the wall!! That being said it was right next to the Colosseum, in between two police stations and we didn't really spend much time there.















Picture 3: Right outside our door...one of the biggest historical landmarks I've ever seen. We went in the Colosseum the next day.. so those pics are coming! On this day we just explored the area and got a feel for where we would be going and I'm glad it gave us a great preview...especially because I didn't realize how much there really is to experience.












Picture 4: I love this huge building and wish we has some more close up pictures of the statues, but suffice to say it's gorgeous white marble designed by Michelangelo and used to be the seat of government.












Picture 5: Maybe the most exciting thing for David who missed our cats...we stumbled upon the cat sanctuary. The WHAT, you may say.. well they took all the cats that were overrunnig the ruins and gave them one specific ruin to live in... it was really just amazing to see these cats chilling in what we would consider amazing artifacts.
