An ad in a local paper for a running group caught my eye last week...so I decided to give it a try. I mean I keep saying I want to find a group to run with, seems the only way to do that is to just show up!
Last night was a Poker Run benefitting a girl with TNT. We collected 5 cards throughout the 5K and then the best hand won...but more importantly...hello I ran 3 8 and 1/2 minute miles.
The group is called Sportsbras 2 Sportsbars and is generally a women's only running group. They do co-ed runs once a month...and seriously they are all triatheltes! Who knows maybe I'll be inspired to try riding a bike...again. The group was a ton of fun and they are all about my age...they are fast which will be good for me. I think I'll keep going and see what happens. The only down side is most of their runs are on Mondays so they only do 3 to 4 miles, which means I'm still SOL for a training partner in the marathon...but who knows.
Anyhow good group run and hopefully more to follow.
10 good vibes:
Hi
We're running a video campaign on behalf of Nike who are looking to appear on sites like runtothefinish.blogspot.com ,
and I'm enquiring if you would be interested in posting the film, which is targeted at your readers.
The film is about Kelly Sotherton the British Heptathlete in a Nikelab to prove her belief in herself.
We are looking at a live date very soon, please see the clip here:

oh that sounds fun!!! awesome job on the run too!
hope you can find a training partner soon! its nice to have someone to share the experience and help motivate. good luck!
I found your blog off of aron's, I know how you feel about finding a good running group. I actually did the same thing and joined up with the Jeff Galloway group, I like it but it's a bit different.
Sounds like you found a fun one but you're right, the long runs is what's important to have to group for. Keep looking, hope you find the one that works for you.
Fun! Maybe somebody in the 5K group knows somebody who's training for a longer race that you could partner with?
Have fun with the running group!! And I think you SHOULD get back into tris!!
And what's with Phils comment? Sounds like business!
Well done on those miles!
Amanda
Happy belated big number 27!
Nice pace on that 3 miler and look at you with 10 miles when you weren't really sure that you had that in you right now. When you have run at the level that you have for a while now, the body doesn't forget... especially when you are only 27!
In terms of finding a group to run with, that is really a logistical nightmare. Even if you do find a group, they are too fast, too slow, run a different course than you like, run on different days...I've given up and just go it along... me the headphones and the so far unnamed farmin.
Best of luck with the training.
Wow, that sounds very fun. I wish there was something like that around here!
A Poker Run sounds fun! You didnt say anything about it so I assume you didnt win...but did the winner get anything besides "all the glory"? :)
A poker run sounds brilliant!!! I need one of those here in NY!
Congrats on the 5K...you're looking really good!
