Mile Dedications

As I sit down to write out my mile dedications, I feel a little sick.. I mean this thing is really going to happen. Will I make my goal? I don't know, but I know that I've trained for it and I know that mentally I want to go after it, so I guess as of Monday I'm ready...let's see how a week of true taper goes. :)

My mile dedications are one of my favorite things to do, I mean how can you give up on a mile that you have dedicated to someone. Instead you think about all the great things they have brought to your life or the triumphs they have overcome and you know you just can't quit.

So here are my miles..there are reasons behind each one that I won't go into, but they all deserve a good mile. :)

Mile 1: My co-workers (seriously, these people amaze me everyday)
Mile 2: Mom
Mile 3: Troy
Mile 4: Dad
Mile 5: Grandma/Grandpa
Mile 6: Jill
Mile 7: Uncle Ray -- Currently serving in Iraq
Mile 8: Jules
Mile 9: All my dear friends
Mile 10: God
Mile 11: David
Mile 12: My new RBF's who inspire me daily!
Mile 13: Me

Now I just need to put these all on this little label I stick to my shirt! I mean a girl can't remember everything when she's running her heart out.

Really wanted to run today, but stuck to a nice walk and some yoga. Tomorrow I'll put in some easy miles though...

Amanda, what a great idea the mile dedication is. As i have 26.1 miles and not so many people, I think I will do it in batch of three-milers.

Excellent idea, THANK YOU!!!!!

You are going to rock that race! No doubt about it!

Good Luck and maybe, just maybe, I'll see you there!

Mile dedications totally work. I have done them on probably my last 4 or 5 marathons. It is kind of funny because you feel this sort of loving emotion toward the person (mine are usually my family), but on the other hand it almost makes me feel angry. I don't know its weird. You've worked hard for that goal... now make it happen.

I've heard of this before and thought it was really cool. I actually had both sides of the fam lined up and it was exactly 26. Then I had to modify my goal. :^( Perhaps I could do half mile for each person.

You are going to do great. I'm hoping to finish. :D

So as a long time lurker, and current co-worker, I finally decided to post on your blog.

Love this idea. Except I think I should of been worthy of my own mile. Maybe not an entire mile, more like 0.5 or 0.25 of a mile. How about even 0.1 of a mile. Some foot steps to the starting line even? It would of been nice instead of being 'lumped' in with all the other co-workers. Waaa-whaaa.

OK, totally just kidding! But I am excited the race is almost here... I just wish I could lifecast or video blog the whole adventure! Sounds like a lot of fun ;)

What a great idea. Hopefully, it should also provide you some mental distraction to be focusing on a different person for each mile.

I feel like I must live in a cave, as I've never heard of mile dedications before; but I love it!

Next big race for me, its definitely happening, thanks for the idea!
